Gifts of Securities (Stocks, Bonds, Mutual Funds)

Donating stock and mutual fund shares is a great way to support the work of the Foundation or any of the parishes, Catholic schools or ministries which we serve. Making a gift of securities is simple and offers a number of valuable financial benefits:

  • You can donate appreciated stocks, bonds or mutual funds
  • The total value of the stock upon transfer is tax-deductible
  • There is no obligation to pay any capital gains taxes on the appreciation

Matching Gifts

Many companies and corporations offer matching gifts to their employees. Matching gifts are an easy way to double the impact of your support for the Catholic Foundation or the parishes, Catholic schools and ministries we serve. Many people do not realize that their employers will match gifts made to charitable organizations. If you are unsure of whether or not your company matches donations, please contact your Human Resources Department.

To let us know that your gift has been matched, please write “Gift will be matched by [YOUR COMPANY’S NAME]” on the memo section of your check or note section of your online donation.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

An IRA qualified charitable distribution (QCD) allows donors to direct up to $100,000 from their traditional IRA to charity tax-free. This option is open to donors age 70 ½ and older who have a traditional IRA, and it counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD). When given directly to charity, traditional IRA funds do not count in your adjusted gross income and are not subject to income tax. A sample letter to your IRA custodian is available, or many custodians provide the option inside a user’s portal.

Digital Currency

NEW! If you are looking for ways to minimize taxes on your crypto investments and help the mission and ministries of the church, consider making a gift of digital currency.

The IRS treats digital currency/cryptocurrency as property. Therefore, if you have bought and held cryptocurrency for more than one year before donating, your gift could be eligible for an itemized charitable deduction for the fair market value of the cryptocurrency at the time of contribution. Further, if you are donating appreciated cryptocurrency, you may avoid capital gains taxes on the cryptocurrency you donate.

The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia has partnered with the cryptocurrency donation platform Engiven to make it easy for you to instantly donate nearly 100 types of cryptocurrencies and to support a wide variety of ministries. We provide IRS 8282/8283 forms and appraisals at no cost to you.

Gifts of Prayer

Please continue to keep the ministry of the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia in your prayers. The Foundation cannot fulfill our mission of ensuring that the Catholic community and its ministries have the financial resources to make a difference in the lives of current and future generations without your prayerful support.
