Dewie McGivney Story
Dewie McGivney and Family St. Peter Chanel Fund
In May of 2024, Peter McGivney attended Mass as usual at St. Peter Chanel. That weekend was the archdiocesan wide Endowment Sunday and all of the Masses had someone give a brief talk from the pulpit about the parish’s endowment fund.
This gave Peter the idea to set up a fund in memory of his wife, who had passed away just a few months earlier. Peter shared “Dewie had always been a kind soul. She welcomed everyone with a smile. Dewie had many friends, some she knew well, and some she didn’t know at all. You see, Dewie never met a stranger.”
The Dewie McGivney and Family St. Peter Chanel Fund was established by the McGivney Family to honor Margaret (Dewie) Dewart McGivney. The fund supports St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell and its mission, including capital needs, religious education, ministries, and operations.
“Dewie loved doing for and giving to others. Establishing this fund is to honor her love of doing right by others,” said Peter. “She loved going to the Saturday vigil Mass not only to worship but also mix with friends and fellow parishioners. This fund will allow all to give to the fund and support St. Peter Chanel Parish and its wonderful people, projects, and God for the foreseeable future.”
