Rene and Jacqueline Cote Endowment Fund

Rene and Jaqueline (Jacquie) Cote were married for nearly 60 years. When they raised their five children—Mike, Donald, Paul, Marc, and Karen—they instilled the importance of education and being lifelong learners, including in the faith. According to their son Mike, their great loves were Jesus, each other, and their family.

“Oh I sure did grow up Catholic!” Jacquie shared. “I went to Catholic school for 12 years and was taught by Catholic nuns, my parents, my grandparents, and my large Catholic family. Rene was one of 8, so he was also from a big Catholic family.” No matter where Rene and Jacquie lived, they valued getting involved in their parish. Jacquie taught Sunday school and served as an extraordinary minister; Rene was a lector. Their children were involved in church activities and sports.

Rene and Jacquie’s family extended to include five in-laws, seventeen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. They continued to have a passion for Catholic education and supporting the church. They were some of the founding members of St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell, joining along with two of their children and their families.

When Rene suddenly passed away in 2020, Jacquie and her family decided they wanted to honor his legacy. Jacquie’s son Mike suggested an endowment fund, “and the more I learned about it, the more it sounded like what I wanted to do,” shared Jacquie. The family spoke to Monsignor Peter Rau, her pastor at St. Peter Chanel Catholic. He suggested they work with the Catholic Foundation to set up the fund.

The family soon established the Rene and Jaqueline Cote Endowment Fund, which will financially support fostering discipleship among the youth and young adults. As an endowment, the fund will benefit the youth and young adults now and forever, and honor the legacy of Rene Cote, a man who constantly reminded his family that God and faith come first and are the foundation for life here on earth.
